A Gear Plan
A few posts back I had a commenter request that I post an example gear plan like I proposed in an earlier post. I thought about it decided it was a good idea, and promptly forgot to do it. I went over my blog notes, (Yes I keep notes about what I’d like to blog about; don’t blame me, blame Matticus.) and decided I should to this quickly before I forgot. Let me say two things that will both be probably be promptly ignored.
- I am not posting this gear plan as a list of gear that you should be trying to get as a raiding priest.
- I do not care to debate with anyone the virtues of this item verses that item for raiding holy priests, nor my spec, etc.
Both of these points stem from the same basic reason, I probably don’t heal the way you do. I’m a very specialized role that is specific to the needs of my guild and myself. I do not wholesale recommend my spec or gearing choices to anyone that’s not functioning in the exact same role that I am 100% of the time. If you would like to discuss the finer points of healing with me, I highly suggest coming over to PlusHeal.com and chatting with the numerous intelligent people there and I about what’s on your mind.
Without further ado, here is my gear plan.

Your loot list makes me \drool … I’m mired in T5 content, myself. But it’s a good exercise in that it provides a clearer sense of where one is and exactly what one needs. So, very cool
As an aside, you should set up Wowhead tooltips! http://www.wowhead.com/?powered Your readers will <3 you for it.

Ok.. so you’re at the end of the game.. with only 1-2 possible upgrades remaining.. how does your gear plan change when you’re below that? ie, between me (ZA) and Sunwell there’s like 7 upgrades to my weapon. Do you list all of them.. or just this tier and the next one up?

I’ve been keeping a spreadsheet with my upgrade lists as well, and it’s a great way for me to keep track of what I need from where.
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=p88IJjw1QPVf7unBuErK7PA&hl=en
The color codes are: Red = haven’t killed this boss on this character, yellow = working on, green = killed, teal = badges/pvp/solo.
Having a complete list of every possible upgrade for a slot also lets me prioritize how good an item is for me to bid accordingly. If an item drops and there are 4 green/teal items above it on my list I can bid the minimum as I’ll most likely be upgrading it soon anyway. There’s also a summary tab, so I can see at a glance which instances I still can get upgrades from.
I created a spreadsheet for my guild to use here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=p88IJjw1QPVfzVAod9dB-fQ&hl=en
Members can log in and add their names to the loot, and the summary page updates automatically. It was a great reference tool for determining who could be swapped in/out without having to ask during the raid.

My one comment is that priest gear is really, really nice looking. WTB something a little less green for druids
